The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) can be used for such calculation of the amount of soil loss. Lower figures are indicative of reduction in soil. The equation goes like;

A= RKLSCP
A = average annual soil loss in t/a (tons per acre)
R = rainfall erosivity index
K = soil erodibility factor
LS = topographic factor – L is for slope length & S
is for slope
C = cropping factor
P = conservation practice factor

Moreover, a visual examination can also show whether or not there is a reduction in soil losses.
